WAYNE R. JAMES, age 64, of York, Alabama, was born to the union of the late Herbert and Abbie Lee Keeton James, Sr. on October 28, 1957 in Choctaw County; Yantley, Alabama. He peacefully transitioned from life to eternity surrounded by loving family at Anderson Regional Medical Center, Meridian, Mississippi on September 30, 2022 at 1:43 a.m. Graveside Service of Memory and Life Celebration is Saturday, October 8, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. in Eastern Star Memorial Gardens, 734 Country Club Road (Millville Road 19) York, Alabama. Rev. Robert E. Pearce, Jr. will deliver the eulogy offering words of comfort and consolation. Visitation for family and friends is scheduled October 7, 2022 from 4-6:00 p.m. in the Weatherly Chapel.
At an early age Wayne joined the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Yantley, Alabama under the leadership of Rev. Fred D. Chapman. While a member there he was an active participant in the choir where he loved to sing.
Wayne and Rosalind James were united in Holy Matrimony on May 26, 1981. To this blissful union one son was born, Reynaldo Miguel James.
Wayne attended the Choctaw County School System and was a graduate of Choctaw County High, Class of 1976. He continued his education at Stillman College, Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
Wayne coached basketball at York West End Junior High for a number of years. He volunteered with Parks and Recreation for the city of York, whereby receiving the Outstanding Volunteer Award from the Mayor of York and the Council. Furthermore, he was instrumental in trying to get a Park for the Youth of York.
Wayne leaves to cherish his memory and to celebrate a beautiful well-lived life of love: a devoted wife of forty-one (41) years, Rosalind James and son Reynaldo M. James; four grandchildren - Jaylen, York, AL, DeAsia of Montgomery, AL, Ariyan, Baton Rouge, La. and Ashanti, of Tuscaloosa; two sisters; Myrtle Woods, New York, N.Y. and Lessie Sharp of Pamona, CA; one aunt Lizzie Holcombe, Mobile, AL; one uncle Green Keeton Sr. of Yantley, AL; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends who loved him dearly and whom he also loved. Truly Wayne will be missed!
