VELMA AMERSON WALKER, of York, Alabama. was born February 21, 1941 in Sumter County, Alabama to the Blessed union of the late Rosie Lee Weston and Richard Amerson. She peacefully transitioned to the Will of God at her residence surrounded by loving family at 8:05 am. on February 19, 2026. Service of Remembrance and Life Celebration is slated for Tuesday, February 24, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Mount Herman Baptist Church, 1930 Millville 19 Road, also York. Rev. James Granger, Sr. will deliver the eulogy offering words of comfort and consolation; Rev. Willie Sims is church pastor and Bro. Jerome McReynolds will serve as Master of Order. Sister Walker will lie in repose (with no viewing) one hour prior to funeral time. Visitation for family and friends with public viewing, is scheduled Monday evening, February 23, 2026 from 2-5:00 p.m. in the Weatherly Funeral Home Chapel. Interment follows in Elmwood Memorial Gardens, 11313 US Highway 11 East, York, Alabama. On Tuesday morning the processional leaves with escort service at 10:40 a.m. from the family residence.
She was united in Holy Matrimony at an early age to the late Joseph Walker.. Sis. Walker joined Mt. Herman Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. M. C. Thompson. While at Mt. Herman she was an active and dedicated member of the Sanctuary Choir. She was loved by many at Sumter Health and Rehabilitation, York, Alabama where she was employed for forty years as a Certified Nursing Assistant.
Those who have preceded her in death are: her son, Ronnie Tyrone Walker; her husband, Joseph Walker, and her brother, Joe Lee Amerson.
She leaves to cherish precious memories of her: five sons - Joe Perry Amerson, Bobby and Willie Amerson, Terry Walker and Gerald Amerson; three daughters - Patrice L. Walker, Prattville, Alabama, Anissa (Tony) Graham of Mobile, Al., and Barbara Walker of Pell City. AL; three grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; siblings; four sisters - Dorothy Dickerson, Patricia N. Amerson, Lucille Amerson Byrd and Lillian Collins; four brothers - Jimmy (Gladys) Amerson, Sr, Dr. Archie Rowe, James Amerson and Timothy Rowe; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, church members and friends and a special friend, Mrs. Pauline McCoy. She will truly be missed by those who loved her dearly and for those whom she also loved.
