THELMA LEE BURTON, age 65 of Cuba, Sumter County, Alabama was born June 17, 1960 to the Blessed union of the late R. H. and Grace Mae Lee (Gibbs) Seal. She peacefully transitioned to the Will of God October 10, 2025 at 3:53 p. m. at Arabella Health and Wellness, Butler, Alabama. Graveside Service of Remembrance and Life Celebration is slated for Saturday, October 18, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. in the Gibbs Family Cemetery, County Road 27, Cuba. Rev. Gerry C. Parker, pastor of New Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, Geiger, Alabama, will deliver the eulogy, offering words of comfort and consolation. Visitation for family and friends is scheduled Friday evening (Oct. 17th) from 2-5:00 p. m. in the Weatherly Chapel. On Saturday afternoon at 12:40 p.m. the processional leaves with escort service from the family residence, located 1242 Sheffield Road, Morning Star community, also Cuba, AL.
Growing up in the Morning Star Community of Cuba, she loved cooking, watching ball games, spending time with her children, grandchildren and family. She also enjoyed playing the sport of softball whereby gaining the name "Legs".
Thelma's Christian journey began at an early age in Lauderdale, MS at Elizabeth United Methodist Church where she served faithfully until her health failed. She was a graduate of Sumter County High School, Class of 1979 in York, Al. She worked at Rob Roy Sewing Factory for numerous years until the factory's closure. For the past seventeen years her current employment was with Walmart (19N) in Meridian, MS.
Those preceding Thelma in death are her loving parents, maternal grandparents, Velma Lee Toole Patrick, William Henry Lee and Delia Gibbs; two brothers, Eligah and William Henry Gibbs; one sister, Vinnie Hill, a nephew; Demarcus Ruffin; aunts, Carrie Lee Naylor and Mandy Louise Cox; uncles, Luther and Arthur Portis.
The Legacy continues as she leaves to cherish her memories: two loving children, Endya Burton and her friend Anthony of Bartlett, TN; Jamel Burton of Meridian, MS; four (4) grandchildren; Corie and Kaylee Lawson, Bartlett, TN., Kaiden and Ian Burton of Meridian, MS; ; one brother, Moses (Sandra Jo) Gibbs, a nephew that she raised like a brother, Eddie (Annette) Gibbs, both of Meridian< MS; three sisters,; Carrie Gibbs and Ollie Johnson, both of Cuba, AL., and Brenda Ann (Eugene) Samuel of Birmingham, AL., a sister in law; Shirley Gibbs, Lauderdale, MS; one aunt, Alberta Fluker, Meridian, MS; a very special friend/sister, Alberta Herlong; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, Walmart family, church family and many more dear friends who loved her dearly and whom she also loved!
