Thelma Delaine

SISTER THELMA DELAINE ---  Service of Remembrance and Life Celebration is scheduled Saturday, July 25, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Grants Chapel CME Church, located 5290 Kinterbish 10, Cuba, Alabama. The only Visitation for family and friends is at the church and will be one hour prior to funeral time. Interment follows in the Delaine Family plot of Cagus Cemetery, also Cuba.

Thelma Delaine was born September 18, 1937, in Ward, Alabama to Anne Neal Lindsay and Dougher Talison who proceeded her in Death. She was the 3rd of 11 children; six brothers: Erma Wilson, EL and XL Mcaroy, Amos, johnnie and Dougher Talison, and 2 sisters Velma Talison and Jevone Smith who preceded her in death. Her surviving siblings are Della Jones, Aaron Talison, Willie Talison, Brenda McGee of Chicago.IL. Gean Hodge, Viola Williams, Ella Balkcom and Patricia Stovall of Detroit Michigan. Six sister in laws Lula Talison of Cuba, AL, Martha Talison of Lansing, MI. Jessie Mcaroy, of Detroit, MI. Jerry (Johnny) Patrick of Whitfield, AL, Viree (Dennis) Bivans of Windsor, CT, and Essie Larkin of Little Rock, Arkansas, 2 Brother in Laws Earnest Delaine of Fayetteville, Georgia, Brother ( Jevone) Smith of Chicago, IL as well as Thelma’s Best Friend Erma-Jean Bollar of Cuba, AL and a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends who loved her dearly and whom she also loved.

Thelma was educated in Ward, Alabama. She accepted Christ into her life at an early age. Shortly after the birth of her first daughter her family decided to uproot and join the great southern migration of 1960. She found employment in Chicago, at a sugar confection company. Thelma also worked as a housekeeper as well to provide for her family. She decided to return to her hometown of Cuba, Alabama where she met and married her late husband, William Henry "Bill" Delaine on February 21,1997.

Thelma had 5 children, 2 which proceed her in death, her eldest daughter Linda Reed and her eldest son Darnell Talison. She leaves to carry on her legacy Patricia Ann Talison (Daughter) of Chicago, IL Gregory Talison (Son) of Cuba, Alabama and Micheal and Nicole Talison of Chicago, IL , Paulette Buffer (Stepdaughter) of Tuscaloosa, AL and Eric Delaine (Stepson) who preceded her in death. She leaves to carry on her legacy, 14 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren.

Thelma had a jovial spirit, when she laughed everything shook. She loved family and togetherness, and you could always find her cooking or hosting company as she sat around and shared her life experience with all who would listen. She often spoke of her family and friends as well as her life and how much she missed being in Cuba, Alabama. She loved to crochet and construct patchwork blankets. She absolutely loved being a part of her community and church. Every Sunday she made her way to the house to praise and worship no matter what. She had become part of a place that she adored and never forgot about. The type of love & loyalty she had for her community followed her everywhere she went. She was truly a country gal at heart, not even the bright lights of the city could change that.

On Sunday July 5th, 2026, at 1:15 am Thelma was called to take her place in Heaven.
