ORLANDO "'DeeBo / Bama" ARTIS, age 48, of Cuba, Alabama, was born to the union of Martha Ann Artis and the late Joe Matthews on August 23, 1975 in Livingston; Sumter County, Alabama. At a young age he accepted Christ as his Savior and joined the Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church. In 1993 he graduated from Sumter County High School. Afterwards, Orlando attended Shelton State College, Tuscaloosa, Alabama pursuing a career in Carpentry. And as the Nickname implies, he was a die hard Alabama Roll Tide fan. Unfortunately, as Fate would have it, while he was heading home, Orlando transitioned in an untimely tragic manner on April 27, 2024 at 7:26 p.m. He was united in Holy Matrimony to Debra Austin who preceded him in death. Orlando was employed at and enjoyed working and helping in any way he could at Sumter Health and Rehabilitation as a Maintenance Worker. He was well loved by his fellow co-workers. Memorial and Homegoing Celebration to honor the life of Orlando will be held Saturday, May 4, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. from Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church, 5051 Kinterbish 10, Cuba, with Pastor C. Wayne Davis delivering the eulogy; Sister Catherine M. Delaine serving as Mistress of Order and Sister Audrey Delaine as Musician/Soloist. Following the Memorial Service, his cremains will be interred in Siloam Cemetery, Ward, Alabama. Those who remain to cherish precious memories and to celebrate a beautiful life are his beloved and devoted mother, Martha Artis; three (3) stepchildren; seven (7) step grandchildren; three (3) aunts and four (4) uncles; two special cousins, Christopher Artis and Marcus Spencer; two special nieces - Kaylee and Kayleen Artis; numerous other relatives and friends who loved him dearly and whom he also loved. Truly DeeBo Bama will be missed! To the entire Artis family, we at Weatherly Funeral Home offer to each of you our most sincere and heartfelt sympathy and condolences. Our prayer remains that your abiding faith in God will lend to you a measure of comfort to strengthen and sustain you during your time of most profound sorrow.
