 ORA "NELL" PORTIS TANKS, age 74, of New Orleans, La., formerly of Sumter County; Alabama, tragically passed in a fatal car accident on May 6, 2017.  Service of Remembrance is Saturday, May 20, 2017 at 11:00 a. m. at Kinterbish Jr. High School, 5586 Kinterbish 10, with interment following in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Jarman Road, Cuba.  After the committal service, repast will be back in the school's cafeteria.   Rev. Earl Horton, Sr., pastor of Nazarene Missionary Baptist Church, New Orleans, Louisiana will deliver the eulogy and offer words of comfort and consolation. Ora Nell will lie in repose one hour prior to funeral time.  Visitation for family and friends is scheduled for Friday evening (May 19th) from 3-7:00 p.m. in the Weatherly Chapel, with the 6-7:00 p.m. hour designated for the Wake.  On Saturday morning, the processional leaves the Portis residence, 1549 Jarman Road, Cuba, at 10:40 a.m.      She leaves behind shoes almost too big to be filled and quite a legacy!   She was preceded in death by her husband: Clarence L. Tanks, her parents: Henry Portis Sr. and Essie Mae Portis, her stillborn daughter: Baby Girl Tanks, and two brothers: Robert Earl Portis and Leroy Portis. She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters: Cynthia T. Ausama (Loris) and Loretta Tanks, a son: Carey L. Tanks (former daughter-in-law Michelle D. Thomas), one adopted daughter: Veronica Brooks all of New Orleans, LA. Two sisters: Susie P. Brooks (former brother-in-law Robert Earl Brooks) of New Orleans, LA and Geneva Adams (Alvan)of Killeen, TX, Three brothers: Henry Portis Jr. (Louise) of Detroit, MI , Jack Portis (Shirley) and Willie D. Portis of Cuba, AL., along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends who loved her dearly and she will truly be missed by all.      To the Portis and Tanks family, we at Weatherly Funeral Home offer to each of you our most sincere and heartfelt sympathies and condolences.  We trust and we pray that your abiding faith in God will continue to comfort, to strengthen and sustain you during this your time of most profound sorrow.
