SISTER MAE ROSE EVANS, age 95, of York, Alabama was born November 1, 1928 in Whitfield; Sumter County, Alabama, the second of four children to the union of the late Isiah and Diniah Knox Fenderson, Sr. On the morning of August 04, 2024, in Birmingham, Alabama, she heard a whisper, "Just lay your head in my bosom and take your rest", then entered into eternal rest, surrounded by loving family at the residence of her beloved granddaughter, Brianna Woodard. Service of Remembrance and Life Celebration is slated for Saturday, August 10, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Fourth Creek Missionary Baptist Church, located 9925 US Highway 80, York, AL. Rev. Mitchel Carter, Pastor, will deliver the eulogy, offering words of comfort and consolation with Sis. Edna Moss Williams serving as Mistress of Order. Interment follows on the Evans property in the Evans Family Memorial Gardens with Sister Evans to be interred next to her husband, Deacon Johnnie Green Evans. Repast to fellowship among friends will be held at the Old Sumter County High School (SCHS) Gymnasium, Highway 11, York, Alabama. Visitation for family and friends is scheduled Friday evening (August 9th) from 3-6:00 pm in the Weatherly Chapel. Those family members who have preceded her in death are: her parents, Mr. Isiah Fenderson, Sr. and Mrs. Diniah Knox Fenderson, her husband Deacon Johnnie Green Evans, one daughter and son-in-law, Mrs. Jona (Benjamin) Moses, three grandchildren, Master Frederick Moses, Master Christian Simmons, and Master Omari Simmons, one sister, Mrs. Dussie Lee Killings (Sug), two brothers, Mr. Isiah Fenderson, Jr (Lil Buddy) and Mr. Henry Fenderson, and lastly one loyal dog - Spike Evans. Mrs. Mae Rose leaves to cherish her precious memories: two devoted daughters, Diana E. Woodard of York, AL and Jerridine E. McClinton of Orlando, FL; two sons, Joseph Evans of Livingston, AL and Jacob Evans of Lorain, OH ; eleven grandchildren (four of whom she raised from birth) Laura Bowen, JoAnn Evans, Elaine (Adionues) Jeffery, Joseph (Pamela) Evans, Jr., Aaron Evans, Jonathan L. (Keia) Moses, Kia A. Cameron, Clovice I. Vaughn II, Benjamin Moses II, Faith B. Woodard, and Victoria A. McClinton; fourteen great- grandchildren; and eleven great- great- grandchildren; special son-in-law, Nathaniel Woodard; special grandson, Tobias (Lauren) Woodward; one special caregiver, Willie Weems; one brother-in-law, Prince Evans of Prattville, AL; one sister-in-law, Julia Evans of Newbern, AL; one special cousin, Jessie Smith of Whitfield, AL; one special friend, Mary Jane Ward of Bellamy, AL; special neighbors, Mr. and Mrs. Herman B. Ward Sr.; nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends who loved her dearly and whom she also loved. Truly Mother Mae Rose Evans will be missed!
