JAMES RAY ("Cowboy")  McABOY, SR., age 69, of the Morning Star Community of Cuba, Alabama was born November 21, 1956 to the Blessed union of the late Tom and Ethel Lee Gibbs McAboy.  He peacefully transitioned to the Will of God surrounded by loving family at his residence November 25, 2025 at 9:25 a.m. Graveside Service of Memory and Life Celebration is slated for Saturday, December 06, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. in the Gibbs Family Cemetery, County Road 27, Cuba.  Rev. Willie D. Burton, pastor of (Pine Grove Baptist Church, Yantley) will deliver the eulogy offering words of comfort and consolation with Sis. Mary Jean McAboy serving as Mistress of Order.  Visitation for family and friends is scheduled Friday evening Dec. 5th from 2-5:00 p.m. in the Weatherly Funeral Home Chapel. Following the services on Saturday, repast will be held at the Broad Street Grill and Restaurant, downtown York, AL.

As a child, James Ray's Sunrise in Christ began when he joined Morning Star Baptist Church under the pastorate of Rev. A. M. Thomas.  He attended York West End Jr. High School, then graduated from Sumter County High School in 1976.  He was a longtime employee of Norfolk Southern Railway until his health declined.

Those who preceded him in death are his parents; Tom and Ethel McAboy, two brothers - Robert and Tommie McAboy;  three sisters - Verina Moore, Annie Bell Kirksey and Christine Delaine.  He leaves to cherish precious memories: Four (4) daughters - Latrecia (Roger) Taylor, Shekettie McAboy, LaCrisha (Bob) McAboy and LaShonda Wilson;  one son; James (Kenisha) McAboy, Jr; Fourteen (14) grandchildren;  three (3) great grandchildren;  Siblings - two brothers; Eddie (Shirley) McAboy, Sr., and Johnny (Rose) Austin; one sister - Dorothy (Herbert) Hawkins;  two sisters-in-law - Mary McAboy and Vallie McAboy;  two brothers-in-law - W. C. Moore and Aubry Delaine; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who loved him dearly and whom he also loved.  Truly James Ray "Cowboy" will be missed!
