EULA STUDDARD CHARLES, age 78, of Birmingham, Alabama, first born of ten siblings to the blessed union of Hiawatha E. and Christie Lee Clark Studdard, Sr., made her Heavenly transition January 24, 2020 at her Brookwood residence.  Service of Memory is slated for Saturday, February 1, 2020 at 12:00 noon from Sixth Avenue Baptist Church, 1101 Martin Luther King Jr Drive 35211, where Dr. John Lovelace Cantelow, III, pastor is to deliver the eulogy and offer words of comfort and consolation.  Interment follows in Elmwood Cemetery and Mausoleum, also on MLK Jr. Drive.  After the committal service, repast is in the Fellowship Hall of the church. Sister Charles will lie in repose one hour prior to funeral time.  Visitation for family and friends is Friday evening, January 31, 2020 from 2:00-7:00 in the chapel of Bushelon Funeral Home. Eula’s spiritual sunrise in Christ as a child began at Mount Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church, under the pastorate of the late Rev. W. W. Thomas.  Later, she and her family joined Sixth Avenue Baptist Church, where she maintained her membership and served faithfully until her untimely passing. Her educational journey began at Washington Elementary School.  She then graduated in the class of 1958 from A.H. Parker High School; obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree from Tuskegee University with further formal additional studies culminating with her Masters in Education from Alabama State University. She began her career as an educator in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for numerous years before returning home to Alabama.  Throughout her tenure as an educator, she enriched and expanded the mind potential and personal growth of countless students within the various school districts inside the greater Birmingham area.  She retired fulfilling many rewarding years at Glen Iris Elementary.  After retirement, Eula was not content to rest on her laurels, so for several years she worked tirelessly volunteering at the Civil Rights Institute. She was united in Holy Matrimony to Bennie Charles and to this union were born the two loves of her life, Eric and Brandon. Awaiting her arrival at the Pearly gates with open arms are:  her parents, her youngest sister Loretta and her sister Brenda.        Those who remain to cherish precious memories and to celebrate a beautiful life are:  her sons, Eric and Brandon Charles;  their father Bennie Charles;  her doted upon grandson Sean; Crystal Harris, LaVonda Primus and Eileen Walker who were  like her daughters; siblings – Hiawatha, Jr. (Carolyn) Studdard, Jacqueline S. Weatherly, James (Gerri) Studdard, Sr., Dwight (Shelby), Kevin (Bobbie),  Sylvia and Brian Studdard;  numerous nieces and nephews who adored her; cousins and countless co-workers, in- laws and friends who truly loved Eula and whom she also truly loved. “Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain;  but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised. From the depths of our hearts, the Charles, Studdard and Weatherly family ask that you would continue to keep us in your prayers as we once again go through this challenging time during the passing of our beloved mother, sister, aunt and friend.
