DOROTHY "Dot" WALKER, age 88, of York, Alabama, the eldest child of five, born to the union of the late Tenny Jim and Alma Evans Walker, transitioned and entered into eternal rest surrounded by family at her residence, February 24, 2021. Service of Memory and Life Celebration is slated for Saturday, March 6, 2021 at 12:00 noon in Home Mission Cemetery, Millville Road 19, York. Rev. Jonathan Byrd, pastor of First Baptist Church, York, Alabama is to deliver the eulogy and offer words of comfort and consolation. Visitation for family and friends is scheduled Friday evening, March 5, 2021 from 3-6:00 p.m. in the Weatherly Chapel. On Saturday morning at 11:30, the escorted processional will leave the family residence, located 204 McConnell Street. "Dot" as she is affectionately called by many, accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age at First Baptist Church, York, Alabama. She was a life-long and third generation member of First Baptist Church. She served the church as the Kitchen Ministry Coordinator for many years. Her God-given talent of cooking and serving others, extended into the York Community. "Dot's" culinary skills for soul food cuisine was enjoyed by many citizens in the York and surrounding local areas. "Dot" retired from McGregor Printing Corporation after more than 23 years of tireless and dedicated service. She served the school children of York for many, many years by serving as a PTA parent and grandparent. Her service and legacy as a Sumter County High School band booster mom and grandma provided opportunities for her to chaperone several band trips, and work the concession stands, which were geared toward funding trips, purchasing new band uniforms and implementing other band activities. Her work in the Sumter County Recreation Group (Youth Softball League) brought much joy and vitality. Over twelve years, she enjoyed mentoring the children and providing concession snacks during their many ball games. "Dot" was relentless in her efforts to be a beacon of hope for the school children, beyond the band and sporting events. She will long be remembered for marching alongside the SCHS band in Birmingham at the Magic City Classic's annual parade and countless other parades and band performances. "Dot" leaves to cherish her precious memories and to celebrate a beautiful life: her three children, Betty (David) Grant, Detroit, Michigan; Michael (Cherrie) Walker, Sr. Montgomery, Alabama; and Carolyn Walker (Fred) Roberts, Port Huron, Michigan; "Dot" was preceded in death by two sons, Theodore "Teddy" Walker and Robert "Dick" Walker; "Dot" will be sorely missed by her youngest brother, Robert (June) Walker, New Orleans, Louisiana; Dot's other four siblings preceded her in death; Ruth Walker, Julius Walker, T. J. Walker, Jr., and Ernest Walker. She was an awesome aunt to her nephew David (Barbara) Walker, Lauderdale, Mississippi; two nieces, Jocelyn (Deion) Austin, and Denise Walker of New Orleans, La; Dot's forever daughter-in-law, (44 years) is Ted's wife, Barbara Walker, of Long Beach, California. Truly "DOT" will be missed by many who loved her and whom she also dearly loved.
