DOROTHY LEE CHILDS JEMISON, age 83,  of Cuba, Alabama, affectionately known as " Sallie Blue", transitioned and entered into eternal rest June 8, 2019 at her residence in Cuba, Alabama.  Service of Remembrance is slated for Saturday, June 15, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. from Grants Chapel CME Church, 5290 Kinterbish 10, Cuba.  Rev. Tyrone Thomas will deliver the eulogy and offer words of comfort and consolation;  Rev. Izea Blanks is church pastor, with Minister Betty Burton serving as Mistress of Order.  Sister Jemison will lie in repose one hour prior to funeral time.  Visitation for family and  friends is scheduled Friday evening (June 14th) from 3-6:00 p.m. in the Weatherly Chapel.  Interment is in Elmwood Memorial Gardens, Highway 11 East, York, Alabama.  After the committal service, repast is in the cafeteria of Kinterbish Jr. High School, where Sister Jemison's daughter Dr. Cynthia Jemison is principal. She confessed Christ at an early age and joined the Pine Grove Baptist Church in Livingston, Alabama.  Later she married moved to Cuba Alabama and joined the Grant's Chapel C. M. E. Church where she served faithfully until her health failed.  She was educated in the Sumter County Public School System.  For many years she was employed by Sumter County Extension Service in which she visited homes and taught women how to cook. Then she was employed by McGregor Printing and Sonoco Products Company until her retirement.  Her passion was baking, especially "potatoe pies." On May 29, 1954, Dorothy Lee Childs was united in Holy Matrimony to Ervin Jemison and to this union six precious children were born. This blessed union lasted until her husband was called to his Heavenly home May 17, 2007. She was preceded in death by her husband, her mother, Mary Betty Childs, a brother, Mr. Wiley "Smokey" Childs, and two grandchildren, LaKeisha Danielle Jemison and LaTron Anderson and stepson Harry Williams. Those who remain to celebrate a beautiful life are:  five loving and dedicated daughters - Gwen Jemison, Cuba, AL., Angela (Ronald) Reynolds, Cleveland Heights, OH., Cathy Jemison, Cuba, AL., Wendy Jemison, York, AL. and Dr. Cynthia Jemison of Cuba, AL;  two (2) sons - Stanley Jemison, Cuba, AL and Antoine Jemison of Atlanta, Ga; six sisters-in-law, Mary Pearl Mitchell and Geraldine Charles of Los Angeles, Calif;  Susie Brown of Dayton, OH, Josephine Austin, York, Ala., Rosemary Jemison and Asyzine Jemison, both of Chicago, Ill; three brothers-in-law Charles Jemison and Tommie Jemison of Chicago, Ill. and Ray Charles of Los Angeles, Ca;  She also leaves to cherish her memory - seven (7) grandchildren; seven great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and devoted friends, her Sunday School class No. 3 and lifelong friends Earlene Wallace, Erma Jean Bollar, Maxine Johnson and Mrs. Bernice Delaine; and two devoted nieces, Yvonne Brown and Vicki Jemison.  Truly "Sallie Blue" will be missed by all those who loved her and all whom she also dearly loved.
