DAVID TOWNSEND, age 59, of Northport, Alabama, a former resident of Sumter County, Alabama, born July 14, 1961 to the union of Frank and Pearlean Phillips Townsend, Sr. peacefully transitioned at his residence December 21, 2020. Graveside Service of Remembrance and Life Celebration is slated for Sunday, December 27, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. in Cokes Chapel Cemetery, Sumter County Road #9, Ward, Alabama. Rev. Joyce McCoy (pastor of Union Chapel CME Church, Ward) will deliver the eulogy and offer words of comfort and consolation. Visitation for family and friends is scheduled Saturday afternoon, (Dec. 26th) from 2-5:00 p.m. in the Weatherly Chapel. The processional will leave from the The Family's Home House, 915 Townsend Mission Loop at 1:45 p.m. Bro. David Townsend accepted Christ at an early age and joined Townsend Mission C.M.E. Church, which was later renamed Union Chapel CME Church. He enjoyed going to church and exercising in the community. During his youth he attended Kinterbish Jr. High School and Sumter County High School. Later he moved to Tuscaloosa and Northport, Alabama and participated in a Day Program with various activities. He continued going to church and enjoyed bowling. He gained a bonus family with Buddie Portis and his staff and made many friends. Those who remain to celebrate his life and precious memories are: Six (6) sisters - Mary (Reginald) Taylor, Eliza Townsend, Linda Graham and Dorothy Burton, all of Ward, AL., Lena Miller of Cuba, AL. and Cora Evans of Livingston, AL., three (3) brothers, Clarence Townsend, Livingston, AL., Arthur (Gloria) Townsend, and Frank Townsend, Jr. of Ward, Alabama. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who loved him dearly. He will truly be missed! To the Townsend Family, we at Weatherly Funeral Home offer to each of you our most profound and heartfelt sympathy and condolences.
